FRG Wins Two Green Restaurant Association Awards
Last week was a big week for our company and our efforts to run sustainable restaurants. We were the recipients of two major awards from the Green Restaurant Association.
Founding Farmers Reston Station was awarded their Near-Zero Waste Award in a tie with the Mammoth Hotel Dining Room in Yellowstone National Park that runs a comprehensive sustainability program across the park called Our Softer Footprint. We received 74.50 GreenPoints™ in the Waste category for our comprehensive recycling and composting program, with the initiatives we have in place, such as offering no bottled water or paper towels, using bulk and scratch-made condiments, supporting a reusable mug program, requiring reusable plates and utensils for staff meals, and more.
Farmers Restaurant Group owns and operates seven 3 Star Certified Green Restaurants® located in the DC metro area and Pennsylvania, including our five Founding Farmers outposts, as well as Farmers & Distillers and Farmers Fishers Bakers. Our restaurants have earned over 1,500 GreenPoints from the Green Restaurant Association for the steps we take every day toward eco-friendly operations.
These continued efforts are not only great for the planet, but they have also landed us the coveted People’s Choice Award, where FRG was voted by the public as the nation’s favorite green restaurants.
In August, our very own Erin Chalkley, FRG’s Construction & Development Project Manager and LEED Green Associate, was named one of the nominees for the Green Leader of the Year Award for her tireless work in helping us build and operate green restaurants. The winner for this year’s award, Stephen Moir, is a culinary instructor at MCVTS Perth Amboy Technical School.
